About Us

The AONB is a partnership organisation made up of local authorities, national environmental agencies and local representatives from landowning and recreation interest groups. Representatives from these groups sit on the Forest of Bowland AONB Joint Advisory Committee (JAC). 

The AONB Partnership is the body responsible for co-ordinating efforts to conserve and enhance the Forest of Bowland, and its work is carried out through the staff team employed through its accountable body, Lancashire County Council.

The AONB Management Plan provides a policy framework and identifies a 5-year programme of actions (April 2019 - March 2024) to help guide the work of the AONB partnership organisations.

The AONB Unit is guided by a Joint Advisory Committee (JAC) and are a dedicated team of staff, who are responsible for coordinating and delivering many AONB projects and activities which make a significant contribution to the delivery of the AONB Management Plan).
